“A few years ago, I was asked if I could translate a silk design into vinyl for the suites at the Four Seasons.” explains Karen Robert, owner of a wallpaper company Aux Abris of her foray into the category. “So I found a substrate with a loverly satin emboss to print on and then I added lots of texture to hlpe it look more aged and luxurious.”

Aux Abris Plans to Tailer the Wallpaper Market to Designers
A pair of snake wall sconces are to blame for Aux Abris’s Garden of Eden raw silk mural wallpaper. The owner, Karen Robert, was contacted by a friend who had just installed the set of lights in her bathroom and requested a serpent-inspired wallcovering. “I got it in my head, and I went home and collaged that afternoon,” says Robert, who designed a small-scale collage of art deco motifs on the computer before printing samples. “The file [for Garden of Eden] kept getting bigger and bigger and it kept crashing my computer, so finally I had to buy a new computer to accommodate it.”

Stuck on You: The Debut of Aux Abris Wallpaper
Interior designer Karen Robert debuted her new wallpaper line at High Point Market. Called Aux Abris, her collection takes wall covering to new heights. When I came across her booth, it stood apart from the surrounding vendors, alive with shimmering beauty. Her stylish outfit is an indication of her directive color sense. From ethnic inspired floral motifs to washes of color and stripes, the design mix is subtle and sophisticated, and can be printed on canvas, grass cloth, paper or a peel and stick surface.
