THE STUDIO

We are a boutique design studio specializing in fine wallpapers with highly textured surfaces. We print on paperbacked grasscloths, silks, linens, and Japanese woven papers as well as other innovative grounds. Our singular collection of  patterns and murals are often inspired by early twentieth century art movements such as the Bauhaus, French Modernism or Art Nouveau. We bring a fresh eye to timeless wallpaper patterns and reinvent them for modern interiors pushing the boundaries of texture, color, and design.  Our wish is to inspire designers’ wit and imagination to create unconventional interiors; our short lead times and our myriad of custom options help make this possible. Please contact one of our many showrooms for sampling or information on how to place an order.

THE FOUNDER

Aux Abris was founded by interior decorator and graphic designer Karen Robert in 2015. Karen Robert has a passion for interiors and founded Aux Abris out of the desire to add a layer of her own wallpaper patterns to her interior design projects. Her design aesthetic was honed during her many years living in Paris, London and Milan; she likes well-worn rooms with quirky modern touches and an exuberance of color, texture and pattern.  The name “Aux Abris” means “take shelter” which is a nod to both her vacation house in Shelter Island, and her husband who is half French. This year, Robert (pronounced the french way ROW_BEAR ) is excited to launch a textile line which, like her wallpapers, will also be manufactured at her studio .
