WELCOME TO OUR STUDIO

If you’ve ever wondered what really goes into creating our wallpapers, this little peek behind the scenes says it all. Every pattern, color, and texture starts here, inside our 6,500-square-foot studio. It’s a space that hums with energy, creativity, and, yes, a little organized chaos.

When we moved in, my goal was simple: to build a space that could hold both the art and the process. Up front, we have our design and sampling departments; in the back, production hums along with printers rolling, paper stacking, and ink drying. It’s not a showroom or a gallery. It’s a working studio. The kind of space where you can smell the paper and hear ideas being made real.

Sampling: The Heartbeat of What We Do

Designers often ask how we manage to send out so many samples. The truth is, it’s our lifeline. For every yard we sell, we give away about a yard in samples. It’s a big commitment, but it’s how people discover our work. You can’t truly understand what we do until you hold a sample in your hand—see how the light hits it, feel the texture, notice the subtle sheen.

Susan, who runs our sample department, is the unsung hero of Aux Abris. She’s the one making sure designers get what they need when they need it. Every cut, every label, every shipment keeps projects moving forward. She’s proof that sampling isn’t just a process. It’s connection.

Where Art Meets Production

If you walk a little deeper into the studio, you’ll hear the hum of the printers. That sound never gets old. It’s where ideas turn into something tangible—where a sketch, a photograph, or a digital concept becomes a wallcovering.

Each substrate reacts differently, so there’s always some tweaking and adjusting involved. Grasscloth, rag paper, metallics—they each have their own personalities. That’s what keeps it interesting. I still get chills seeing a new design come off the press for the first time. It’s the same feeling I had years ago when I was printing in my basement, experimenting with whatever materials I could get my hands on.

Organized Chaos (Emphasis on the Organized)

The back of our studio is where we store all our substrates—vinyls, silks, papers—all labeled and stored with care. It looks like chaos at first, but it’s actually very deliberate. Everything has a purpose and a place. When a designer needs something fast, we know exactly where to find it.

A Space That Feels Like Us

Aux Abris has always been about creativity and craft. This studio is a reflection of that. It’s full of movement, sound, and texture. It’s not perfect, and it’s rarely quiet—but it’s real.

This tour gives you a look into the world we’ve built. It’s a space powered by imagination, teamwork, and a deep love for making things that last.

So come take a look around. This is where your wallpapers begin.
