Batik

Batik patterns are made with a wax resist dying method. Wax is brushed on, then dip dyed, then the wax is melted off with boiling water. The technique of batik painting goes back hundreds of years and possibly originated near Indonesia. By the early 1800s it had migrated to Europe. This particular batik design has an ethereal quality which is further enhanced by the metallic grasscloth which it is printed on.
